Being an Actor Gives Me a Voice to Make a Difference

Actress Sonakshi Sinha says having a celebrity status gives her a voice which she can use to make a difference.

Sonakshi on Wednesday took to Twitter and shared a link of an advertisement.
"I am a part of the Hindi film industry, and being an actor gives me a voice and the means to make a difference. I wish for every woman in India to have a voice, no matter what walk of life she is in. How do you Re-imagine India," Sonakshi captioned the video.

Things Went Wrong With Dilwale

Shetty said: "No... What has happened is that just because you have a big star, you tag it as a commercial film. I don't see 'Tubelight' as a commercial film. Whereas Salman Khan's 'Tiger Zinda Hai' is a commercial film -- you can make out, there is action, there is a song and there is everything that a Salman Khan film should be like.

"And I really admire and respect Kabir (Khan) for taking Salman Khan after Bajrangi (Bhaijaan) and making a film like Tubelight. It didn't work, that's a different story altogether but at least he was honest in what he was doing. So I don't see Tubelight as a commercial film.

"I don't see 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' as an out and out Shah Rukh Khan commercial film. So you can't call these two films commercial. And other than that what happened this year was that a lot of people took back-foot, 'Oh, a commercial is not going to work', which is a wrong theory altogether. A good commercial film will always work."

Mammootty Fan Arrested For Cyberbullying Parvathy Over Kasaba Row

The police probing the complaint of the actor have indicated that more arrests are likely.

Trouble started for the young award-winning actor ever since she expressed her reservations regarding the dialogues in the film at the recently concluded International Film Festival of Kerala.

She, however, never took any names when she expressed her reservations in the dialogues of the film.

Since then, social media was full of angry responses against the actress and when it crossed all limits, she filed a police complaint here, following which the cyber police swung into action.

Biggest Change Will Be Being Called Just Comics

There are more number of us than before. Not many, but still a lot more. More women are trying stand-up, there are more -- not too many but it's a start - sketches/content being written with women in mind. All of this hopefully gets more women to come forward and be part of the scene," Suresh said in an email interview.

"I just hope that more women write roles and characters for themselves and not wait for someone else to write for them because a man can't always understand the complexities a comic who is a woman can portray. All I really want is for more women to be part of the comedy circuit so that we will be called as just comics and not 'female comedians' and that will be the biggest change," she added.

Suresh has made a place for herself in showbiz as an improviser, a comedy sketch artiste and an actor. She is known for her YouTube videos like the Maid Interview, her role in Better Life Foundation and The Office-inspired web series documenting the workings of an NGO.

She is back with Pushpavalli, in which she plays the role of female protagonist. Suresh has written the Amazon Prime Video web series, which address the issue of stalking in lighter vein.

Salman Khan Turns 5

Bollywood's two biggest superstars, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have been giving us endless friendship goals of late. The two never fail to impress fans with their enviable camaraderie. Every time they come together at an event the media too goes berserk.

We don't know whether it is their long-standing enmity or sudden bromance, the equation that these two actors share invariably makes for an interesting read. And as Salman rings in his 52nd birthday today, SRK made sure he conveyed his wishes to his BFF on time.

Wedding Announcement Is Golden Tweet Of The Year

Virat also confirmed their wedding with the similar post along with a different picture. The cricketer's tweet became the most retweeted post, surpassing South actor Surya Sivakumar's tweet unveiling the second look of his Tamil film "Thaana Serndha Kootam".

Superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman were the most talked about male celebs on Twitter this year. The list also included megastar Amitabh Bachchan, music maestro AR Rahman, Akshay Kumar and young star Varun Dhawan.

Deepika Padukone, whose much-awaited film Padmavati got mired in controversy and could not make it to the theatres as per the scheduled release, topped the list of the most talked about female actors.

Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, Shraddha Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar are also part of the list.

Shah Rukh's Raees may not have been able to become a huge box office success, but the film was the most talked about Bollywood movie on Twitter.

Salman's latest release Tiger Zinda Hai and Tubelight are on the second and third spot respectively.

Priyanka Chopra

I am very fierce. People are a little bit scared of me. When I walk into a room, I make sure that no one can... Yes, I have had situations when I have been thrown out of films because someone else was recommended... A girlfriend was recommended after I was signed for a movie. So, that's an abuse of power... I couldn't do anything about it. I was removed last minute from many such situations because I never catered to the whims and fancies of powerful men. I only cater to my colleagues and friends who give me respect.

"I was treated in a different way because I commanded that, and it was because I had the strength and support of my family," said the 35-year-old actress, who has found popularity in Hollywood.

This year has seen some of the best-known actresses and celebrities from American showbiz pouring their heart out about experiences they went through to have the career they have. Several of them named producer Harvey Weinstein -- a revelation which opened a Pandora's Box of more sexual abuse claims.

Bollywood has not named and shamed anyone, but celebrities, in general, have condemned its prevalence.

Priyanka Chopra's Response

The actress was at the Penguin Annual Lecture here on Tuesday when she spoke about how her dream has always been about achieving the intangible joy of leaving behind a legacy.

"It's not about whether I want a car or want so many zeros on my cheque. For me, it has always been bigger than that... There's a bigger picture," she said.

So, do those zeroes matter?

"Yes. Because I work very hard for them. And I wasn't born with a silver spoon, though my parents always gave me one. I always worked very hard to be where I am and I think each one of us deserves to be compensated for it."

Priyanka, who has carved a niche for herself in Hollywood with her role in American TV show Quantico, said she is "extremely proud" of being the only woman in a men's only top 10 list.

"But it was funny because there are so many people who talk about the kind of numbers that I apparently get for certain minutes of my time," she said, taking a dig at reports that she charged Rs 5 crore for her five-minute performance at the Zee Cine Awards earlier this month in Mumbai.

Rihanna's 21-Year old Cousin Shot Dead

"Never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body! Love you always man," she added.

The eight-time Grammy award winner ended the post saying: "End gun violence".

Alleyne was walking through a track in the St Michael's area of Barbados around 7 p.m. on Tuesday night when he was approached by a man and shot several times. The man then fled the scene and has not been identified.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle but succumbed to his injuries.

Work On Third Installment of Don Has Begun

It will happen sooner than you know as we have started working on the script and the story. I think we need to crack the story as the responsibility is more (to get it right for the third part). With the next film in 'Don' franchise we won't take that much time, we will make it fast," he said.

According to Sidhwani, the team would make an official announcement about Don 3 next year.

Farhan Akhtar and Sidhwani's production company, Excel Entertainment, owns the rights of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer 1978 film Don.

Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011) also starred Priyanka Chopra opposite Shah Rukh Khan, who stars in the title role.

Did Ileana D'Cruz Just Confirm Marriage

Unlike her contemporaries, Ileana D'Cruz has never shied away from talking about her personal life. In fact, the actor has often been seen sharing pictures with her longtime Australian boyfriend Andrew Kneebone on her social media accounts. Kneebone is a photographer by profession.

However, the latest post of the Baadshaho star on her Instagram profile has got everyone curious. Yes, you read it right! The actor, for the first time, referred her beau Andrew as ‘hubby’.

There's Movement But It's Nominal

There is movement but it is very nominal. We need to work so much more. In our country and across the globe, girls are treated as a secondary citizen. They face violence and abuse everywhere. And feminism is a way to control that situation, but it has become a negative term," Priyanka told PTI in an interview.

For the actor, who has successfully crossed over to the American showbiz world with the television show Quantico and made her Hollywood debut with Baywatch, feminism is "not about superiority but equality".

"I believe a lot of people still don't understand the actual meaning of feminism. Feminism and empowerment are two words which people overuse, without even understanding the meaning properly."

Feminism for her, Priyanka stressed, is about women getting the opportunities that men have always enjoyed.

'Dhobi Ghat more an art house film' - Kiran Rao

Kiran Rao explains,"The film is half in English therefore you cut out a large section of the audience. It's at least 40 percent in English. Most people understand and enjoy Hindi films and it is clearly less than half who are comfortable with English or who speak English. Also, in its filmmaking aesthetics, it's different from what people are used to watching," says Kiran.
"Language is one of the factors that will reduce my audience. 'Peepli Live' is a very plot driven film. My script is quite different, my treatment, my inspiration and a lot of the things that I wanted to do is very different," asserts Kiran.
"It's a very relatable film, a film with lot of emotion, but a subtle story," she adds.

Top 10 World Cinema DVDs of the year

Unlike Hollywood, foreign language cinema hardly gets theatrical releases in India. Here we track the best of foreign language DVD releases...'Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain' (The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain) known to the world as 'Amelie' tells the story of a waitress who decides to help strangers to find happiness. It plays like a fairy tale for grown-ups with an enchanting performance by Audrey Tautou. Jean-Pierre Jeunet's film was hugely popular with both critics and audience, and probably the best of all modern escapist cinemas.

Our cinema's no less than world cinema: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

"Our cinema...that we are making, is no less than any world cinema. We are making good films and they are getting appreciated worldwide especially at film festivals. It's not necessary to do a Hollywood film to prove one's skills as an actor.
"I don't think I need to do Hollywood films. If I get an opportunity, I will consider it. But it's not any do or die situation," Nawazuddin, who will be seen in the Hollywood project 'Lion', told IANS.

We Should Be Inspired by Iranian Cinema: Rahul Bose

Mumbai: Actor-filmmaker Rahul Bose says Indian filmmakers should seek inspiration from Iranian cinema and learn the art of making movies under specific time-bound restrictions.
"We should be inspired by the world-class Iranian cinema which is made with 99-restrictions but has never come in the way of creating quality global content," Rahul said in a statement.
Rahul, whose last directorial Poorna played out for around 145 minutes, added: "There's always a way, there's always a creative way that you can use and people will not understand the problems you went through."

In This Disintegrating World, Cinema is a Worthy Example of Unity: Amitabh Bachchan

In a fast and disintegrating world, cinema is one of the most worthy examples of unity and integration, said Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who was conferred the Indian film personality of the year award winner at the 48th IFFI on Tuesday.
"I have always felt that my respect and regard for the Indian film industry has rested in the presence that the film industry has had in our world. When we sit inside a darkened hall, we never ask for caste, creed, colour or the religion of the person sitting next to us is," he said, in his award acceptance speech at the closing ceremony of the 2017 edition of the International Film Festival of India.

"Yet, we see the same film, we laugh at the same jokes, we cry at the same emotion, we sing the same songs. In this fast disintegrating world of today, where can you find such a wonderful and worthy example of unity and integration as you do in the world of cinema," he asked.

Citing a cinema-related anecdote involving his father and great Hindi poet Harivanshrai Bachchan, Amitabh said: "I once asked my father what do you getting watching films on TV every evening. He said: 'I get to see poetic justice in three hours. You and I will see poetic justice in perhaps a lifetime'."

chinesh director Jia Zhangke’s bulky

chinesh director Jia Zhangke’s bulky three-act melodrama (appearing in cinemas a full two and a half years after its festival debut in Cannes) is an intriguing, imperfect beast. Beginning on the eve of the millennium, and opening with an exuberant dance sequence set to Go West by Pet Shop Boys, the film moves through three time periods as lived by a trio of childhood friends in China. There is Tao (Zhao Tao), an easy-going rainbow-cardiganed presence, strong, silent coal miner Liangzi (Liang Jin Dong), and bratty posh boy Zhang Jinsheng (Zhang Yi). Against a backdrop of homemade steamed dumplings, Cantonese pop songs and smoky clubs blaring rave music, a love triangle unfolds.
The second chapter skips ahead 14 years and sees Tao as a single mother, Jinsheng with a new wife, and Liangzi’s lungs failing him; the third is set in 2025 and focuses on Tao’s now college-aged son Dollar (Dong Zijian), who lives in Australia and is estranged from his mother. The time periods (accompanied by three changing aspect ratios) allow Zhangke to look at the specific emotional and sociological repercussions of China’s changing economic landscape, but the film’s sections aren’t equally weighted, with the final “future” chapter floating free of the rest of the narrative.

Empire Podcast #293: Karen Gillan

On the last Empire Podcast of 2017, the podcast team — Chris Hewitt, Helen O'Hara and James Dyer — are rambling even more than usual as they discuss the Disney takeover of Fox, answer your Christmas movie questions, review Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and have a big old barney over Aaron Sorkin. To paraphrase a great man we used to know in San Diego back in the '70s, that escalated quickly.

And we see out the year in style with our wonderful star guest, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle's Karen Gillan. Find out which accent her Guardians Of The Galaxy character, Nebula, was supposed to have! Gasp, as she reveals the subtitle of the fourth Avengersmovie (in jest, before you start writing your thinkpieces)! And ponder her love of Kubrick, ending in a promise we'd love to help her fulfil one day. Do you want to hear an Empire Podcast dedicated solely to Karen Gillan and the Empire team waxing lyrical about Stanley Kubrick? Of course you do.

This is the last regular podcast of the year, but we will have a Hugh Jackman interview special next Friday (22nd), and our Review Of The Year podcast on the 29th. As ever, thanks so much for listening to/tolerating us throughout the year. We couldn't do it without you. Well, we could, but it wouldn't be half as much fun.

Will Smith Producing Michael Jordan Biopic

Between Michael Jordan's initial retirement from the NBA in 1993 and his comeback in 1995, the basketball superstar made the unlikely decision to start playing baseball instead. That strange interlude is now set to be the subject of a biographical film called The Prospect, which Will Smith is producing.

Jordan made the jump partly to fulfil a promise he made to his father, who died in 1993. Jordan signed with the Birmingham Barons, the Chicago White Sox's minor league team, and later also played for the Scottsdale Scorpions. He acquitted himself well, but eventually returned to basketball.

This period, was, of course, already covered in 1996's Space Jam: an "alternative" recounting of Jordan's lost couple of years, in which he plays a secret intergalactic basketball game in the centre of the Earth with Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian. We know which version we prefer to believe.
Ben Epstein wrote the screenplay for The Prospect, which has been knocking around the Black List of buzzy unproduced scripts for a while. The project will come together under Smith's Overlook Entertainment banner, but there's no time frame so far.

Mortal Engines: First Trailer Trundles Online

It often seems like London is a glowering predator intent on devouring us all, but in Christian Rivers' Mortal Engines that's no longer a metaphor. Based on Philip Reeve's novel, Mortal Engines centres around a dystopian future where sprawling metropolises thunder around on giant wheels, gobbling up smaller townships for resources (something known as 'Municipal Darwinism'). You can catch a glimpse of what city-on-city predation looks like in the trailer below.

Produced by Peter Jackson, the Mortal Engines stars Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan and both Hugo Weaving and Stephen Lang as the film's villains — a pairing we've been waiting our entire lives for. The film will hit UK cinemas a year from now on 14 December 2018.

Why Matthew Vaughn Would Rather Make A DC Movie Than A New Marvel Flick

The competition between DC and Marvel continues to be a hot topic of conversation in comments sections and forums all across the internet. A rising tide lifts all boats, so while the studios don't play into it, the directors of comic book films are occasionally   the discussion. While fans of both franchises may love his work, for director Matthew Vaughn, he would prefer tackling a DC movie at the moment rather than take on a film in the  since in the DC world, the expectations would be lower. As he explained:

Given that Matthew Vaughn is  Warner Bros. top choice to direct , it's not too shocking to hear he loves the world of DC and would rather helm a film in that universe. He even admits that they are talking about working together. What is surprising is the honesty of his reasoning. In his mind, there is such a low bar to hurdle at DC makes it easier to create a relatively better film, whereas Marvel is riding high. If he were to direct a Marvel film, even if it's great, it could just disappear among all their other successes. When you rescue a franchise that's having problems, you become a hero to the studio and fans alike. This is why Patty Jenkins gets  for Wonder Woman. Regardless of what fans might like to think, the DC film universe is . While once the DCEu's entries were hit with mixed-to-negative reactions, now there's, too. If Man of Steel 2 is still  for Warner Bros, and Matthew Vaughn gets the gig and knocks it out of a the park, he can
Matthew Vaughn's comments to also make me think that he sees it as more fun to get involved with a troubled franchise. It could be a bit of a challenge and something that he feels he could really excel at. Matthew Vaughn is no stranger to comic book fare, having directed both  films and Kick-Ass. He has also proved adept at more traditional superhero fare. When he semi-rebooted Fox's X-Men film universe with the well-received , he took a troubled franchise and returned it to its former glory. This man knows how to craft a great film and from the more comic-booky aspects of these stories. WB and DC  to have such a filmmaker on board for Man of Steel 2.
For fans who want to see Matthew Vaughn bring his style into the MCU, this is hardly reason to think he'll never direct a Marvel film. As Joss Whedon , skilled comic book film directors are in high demand. Perhaps one day he'll tackle again, only this time in the MCU. Matthew Vaughn's latest film, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, is  on home video. For all the latest in the high cost of low expectations, stay tuned to CinemaBlend.
